Hironaka House

Originally an architecture is established with floors, walls and roofs. However, I think that there is not a meaning if a sense of space cannot be felt inside of the architecture. It might be since 2005 when i have strongly started thinking during the process of design that the roof frame plays a major role in that sense of space. An idea of polyhedron has offered a new direction of design as I have tried various pattern of roof frame with various construction methods after “The Suzuki house” (Yamanakako, 2007).This polyhedron structure has unique power of embracement, and eventually The Hironaka house (Tokyo, 2011) became almost spherical shape. The globe at this Hironaka house is designed for an art atelier and a tea-ceremony room, in other words, only an extraordinary space exists inside of this globe.
