Ranjit Makkuni Museum
2015
ID: 000013570
The project is a museum and dwelling space designed for the iconic Indian artist, Ranjit Makkuni, a media artist who uses computer-generated imagery, music and digital devices in his various forms of expression. At the same time, he is a musician who composes and performs music as well as a multi-creator who coordinates various museums and art galleries in India. This building functions as an art gallery for collecting and exhibiting Makkuni's works, a studio, an office, and his own residence. The building consists of two wings: East Wing is for public and West Wing is for private space. The first floor of the East Wing houses the art gallery and library, while the studio and office are located on the second floor. The ground floor of the West Wing houses the living room, kitchen, dining and wet area, while the master bedroom and guest bedroom are located on the second floor. What binds them together is the composition of the diverging space—the logic of the two layers of walls branching out and twisting in the center of the building, reversing up and down and superimposing themselves, that creates a three-dimensional, complex network of spaces. Because of the three-dimensional complexity of simple diverging logic, a complex and diverse space is created even though the composition is based on simple logic. By creating art galleries and living spaces based on the logic of a networked space full of complicated visible outlines , our goal is to make daily life full of discoveries for the visitors and the clients who would live there.
